I love fall, and despite my love for it, I was stuck in a rut for redoing our mantle. It’s always my nemesis…Although I loved it, I knew it was time for a update.
I wanted to go with a less chaotic-eclectic but still quirky look.
I wanted a main piece of artwork, but wasn’t sure what. Then I got some heavy twine in these orange shades from a yard sale this weekend. (25 cents each!) I wrapped them around an Ikea mirror I had laying around and voila! Instant art.
After I hung it up, I brought out my hoard of spools I had in a box (collected from all over) and lined them up by height. After that, I took one of the spools I wasn’t using , and used it to wrap the twine I had left. On a whim, I put it up below the art. And loved it, just the touch of whimsy it needed.
I then added a few other elements, to break up the spools. I got the little owl from the plaza, found the little Japanese doll at a yard sale and decided to keep the antler as-is. I’ve got a soft spot for antlers, what can I say.
Now I just need to get some tapers for my candleholders.
Hope you guys were more on the ball decorating for fall than I was! Christmas is coming soon! If you need help with your mantle, this video was super helpful for me.
The last time I posted about fashion (here), I thought I would be doing regular posts on my outfits. Look how fabulous they are, Joanne from Fabulously Average & Katie from Running on Happiness. But alas, I couldn’t do it. I felt like I didn’t have much to say about each outfit and my fashion wardrobe is so often comprised of clothes that aren’t available.
From thrifted clothes from goodwill, picked pieces from yard sales, hand-me downs from various sources like my grandma and sister-in-law (due to her across the world move.) Almost none of it is available to buy at this time I can’t go through websites trying to find comparable products. But I still wanted to chronicle my ever-changing style and new delves into fashion, thus I have started chronicling them on a tumblr blog here and feeding the 20 most recent posts into my sidebar here.
I think it is the perfect solution. I can still chronicle my notable outfits, without making a post dedicated to it. For any additional details click on the pictures. I hope it’s something that both benefits those who read this blog and in addition, keeps me motivated to put some effort in!
Thanks for reading!
I was super stoked to win the feltie from Pocket Pause that corgi butts gave away. Who couldn’t help but want their corgi immortalized in felted wool felt. (don’t answer that.) Miranda was crazy quick and before I knew it this little cutie was at my doorstep.
She’s about 6 inches long and 3.5 inches tall. Just the thing to sit under my monitor at work :)
I chose to have in the classic corgi lying down pose. who could resist that famous corgi butt.
I love her little spot, and the black sable-ness on her back is awesome
Lilu isn’t super impressed.
Ha. I love Lilu’s expressions here.
Well, that’s my new feltie! If you are interested in one she does all kinds of critters, check out her etsy shop.
