Ah shelving, always a problem, we have books and need somewhere to put them. We had (thankfully past tense) what every couple seems to have these days. This standard boring bookshelf from IKEA.
So not going to cut it! I began frenzied brainstorming about ways to make shelves out of unconventional materials. I even briefly looked into building our own built-ins…but gave up on that idea. They only look really good if done right, not to mention the solid look of them didn’t really fit in our space. And then on one of my many garage-saleing adventures I happened upon this gem
but the owner wanted $5, At the time I thought too high of a price so I indignantly walked away, But now I had a solution!
and after a craigslist trip where I scored 6 and lots more garage-ing my shelves were born!
Add a few accessories and I think it turned out quite well! My husband was hesitant at first, he said “we aren’t cool enough for these, they look like they belong in a urban new york studio” which was actually my vision! We we’re kinda on the same page…
Actually as I type this all the books are currently on the floor, we needed to install a new vent, located right behind them. oh well, it gives me an excuse to re-organize and update the color coordinated theme! Cost for these crates varied per crate between free and $3 I have 20 altogether. and still on the hunt for more! I want to add our board game collection to the wall. Stay tuned!
