A reupholstered ottoman

For quite some time I have been an avid follower of design*sponge in particular I am drawn to the before and afters, they are people just like me ( well, most are more talented!) transforming their furniture and homes. DIY’rs unite! As you will see, some of the most stunning transformations are done by  reupholstering. Also, lets be honest, they are the most intimidating. I first purchased this gem,

sans the gaping hole at a garage sale for $5 with the thought that I’ll reupholster one day. but until then, i need an ottoman and the red isn’t that terrible is it? Enter my lilu and her partner in crime Arthas (pictured) they got bored one day. Fantastic. Well one day is now today. What have I got to lose?

I had this fabulous red/grey fabric that I purchased not knowing what I was going to use it for. It is a pattern for something,  no idea what but I liked the look. This seemed perfect, first I removed all the staples that cost a day and a few blisters, the sewing took about 3 evenings, not bad!

Ta-da, I love the integrated typography and white borders!

the piping intimidated me but it actually wasn’t bad, I just used the zipper foot and this tutorial

Not bad for a first time, now the sofa….hmm

I really really really want to do one of these too. I’ve been on the hunt for a ottoman just like that. If you happen to see one…give me a ring!
